Cavalaire from the air
The event will run in conjunction with Caval’eau Jet 2019
There will be a new name on the P1 race calendar this year with the international marine motorsport promoter announcing that Cavalaire-sur-Mer in south eastern France will host the third round of its AquaX Eurotour personal watercraft racing series in September.
P1’s 14-event international AquaX programme includes four race weekends as part of the Eurotour, with professional and amateur riders from across Europe competing in France, Belgium and Spain between May and October. Now in its third year, the Eurotour has become a regular visitor to the Mediterranean coast and will arrive in Cavalaire-sur-Mer as the town celebrates its 90th anniversary.
Situated on the Cote d’Azur between Saint-Tropez and Le Lavandou, Cavalaire-sur-Mer offers just about every maritime activity known to man - sailing, kayaking, paddleboarding, windsurfing, wakeboarding, diving and deep-sea fishing - and is regarded as the jet ski capital of France. This title owes much to its annual and now legendary race, organised by the “Tontons Flingueurs” and known as Caval’eau Jet. As Jean-Pascal Debiard, President of Cavalaire Tourist Board, explains: “For more than twenty years we have welcomed the best jet ski riders and loyal fans from all over France to our Jet weekend, which is the climax of our summer season. We are delighted to be partnering with P1 AquaX to further enhance the profile of the event by presenting an expanded race programme and generating heightened media coverage.”
P1’s European Championship Manager, Julien Bastien comments: “This will be a special weekend for jet ski racing and by combining the two events – with the AquaX Enduro and Sprint classes joining the Caval’eau Jet - we are expecting as many as 180 riders on the water. With around 18 races scheduled, it will be a real feast of top class sport and entertainment that’s free to watch.” Caval’eau Jet is an Open race, with a Le Mans-style start and a 3km course, that welcomes both professional and amateur riders.
“In the eight years since its launch, P1 AquaX has grown significantly” adds Bastien. “The rapidly increasing number of riders, partners and fans has been tremendous and our close relationship with the leading manufacturers has added considerably to the legitimacy of our series. We attract world class racers to our championships in the USA, UK and Europe, and the racing in Cavalaire-sur-Mer will be fiercely competitive.”
The P1 AquaX Eurotour gets underway in La Seyne-sur-Mer in mid-April, with the Cavalaire-sur-Mer round taking place on the weekend of 14-15 September.
